All England – the most prestigious tournament in the BWF World Tour system – has recently become a “home ground” for Indonesian men’s doubles players. Over the last 17 seasons, they have claimed 7 titles, particularly in the last three consecutive years:
- 2022 – Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana
- 2023 – Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto
- 2024 – Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto
The top Indonesian duo, Alfian/Ardianto, seem to be a “ghost” at other major tournaments, but when they arrive in England, they perform as if they are “on fire,” much like Lee Yang/Wang Chi Lin did when they won their second Olympic gold in Paris.
However, the current champions of All England have shown concerning results at the start of the 2025 season:
- Malaysia Open S1000 – Out in the first round
- India Open S750 – Exited in the second round
- Indonesia Masters S500 – Reached the final but lost quickly 0-2 (21-11, 21-19) despite the absence of many strong pairs
Given this performance, do you think Alfian/Ardianto still have a chance to win the All England title this year? Or even if this pair is eliminated early, does Indonesia have another ace up its sleeve, a young duo capable of competing with the current top men’s pairs?
